Maybe I’m reading her wrong. Is she “concerned” about me? I’m no trained Inquisitor. Holy SH#T those people are scary….I hear. I’ve heard that they even can read your mind, even predict what your actions are before you finish thinking about it. Probably a rumor. Just like they can shoot lightning out of their eyes. Nobody can really do that…..can they?

Anyway, she might just be uncomfortable in enemy territory with no weapons, and wants to get back. So I told her I’m ready to go. After all, we both had our strength back.

She grabbed my hand, and I followed her south into the industrial ruins. Let me tell you, her three fingered hands feel weird when grasping your hand. I began to ignore it, mostly because looking back, I saw a swarm of greenskins moving past the greenhouse ruins and further on to the battle in the distance. She looked tense. Maybe nervous. I never saw Xin’Vauk like this. She was always so cool under pressure. She was quickening the pace, but when looking back, she had to stop to focus her eyes. Maybe her vision was excellent if standing still, and wasn’t good with fast motion sight. Interesting.

I found an Ork pistol, or looks like a pistol. The guards called them sluggers, or slugga’s. Damn, this thing looked like it was slapped together with some random metal, welding and rope. I got part of it open to check to see if it can still work. What?!?! Random springs, cogs and joints combined with pointless pieces of metal. This thing shouldn’t even work at all, but the chamber (hardly resembles a chamber) was spent recently. Makes no sense. I dropped it an continued.

About an hour or two of walking, I wanted to ask her more, but when I would begin to talk, she hushed me, and pointed behind us. When we stopped, I looked back and couldn’t see anything at first, then I saw something. Something moved past some burned out vehicles behind an old building. I waited for a bit and saw it again. SH#T!!!!! An Ork Kommando. I overheard some vets talk about those things back on the ship that brought us to this planet. They said the reports stated that random outposts would radio in enemy movement and then static. Xin’Vauk whispered to me that there are at least 13 she counted, but probably twice that much following us……..WAIT!!!! She sounded calm again.

I turned to her and noticed a reinforced will. What changed her attitude so quickly? There were friggin’ Kommandos after us. Why is she calm? She said something to herself in that xeno gibberish, but repeated it in Low Gothic to me. “He is near, all is calm and serene. The Greater Good rises from the darkness and lights the universe with unity.” Godless xenos with incantations confused me.

She began to move again with a renewed energy and confidence, pulling me along. But maybe these Kommandos aren’t attacking us because they want to find out where we are going. My mind was racing when I saw movement ahead of me, maybe 300 meters ahead. We stopped and she had us hunkered down below the concrete arches of some raised road. I saw the movement again in front of us, it was closer, but this was different. It wasn’t like the shadow I caught from the Kommando, but more of the bending of light that shimmered a bit, then nothing at all.

She whispered to me that her Tio’ve should be near. Were they the shimmers I saw a few moments ago, or more Kommandos? She told me we should be safe very soon and her Aun’vre is very close, but we need to move before the Orks attack.

Ok, so what should I do?
1) -Follow her closer to safety, and pray that those shimmering hints of movement ahead of us are her……uh…..Teeee-o-vay…or something. Her sudden confidence throws me off a bit. Does she know how tactical and dangerous Ork Kommandos are? The guard underestimates them. Will the Tau? They might know the Orks are here, they are just coming in for the kill, like a patient hunter. Or it could be the other way around.

2) -Not getting attacked right away gets me worried. Are they tracking our destination? Maybe we should move a little off path, further away from her safety zone. Hopefully, her xeno-kind can track our movement and clean them out before the Orks report back. But moving her and her people further away might have a reverse side effect of this mysterious confidence booster.

Great story and the fact she is dragging him along the way is hilarious.
