Alright, we continue: --------------------------------------------------------- This has turned out to be a strange day. From what I know, this Tau soldier wants me alive, but for what, I may not know? What proves this? I can start by explaining what happened after I let go of the knife:
She put her helmet on after packing and turned to me. Whatever emotion or feeling I could have seen from her xeno eyes vanished when I looked at that eerie plain helmet and those vertical optical lenses .such of a lack of emotion gave me the chills.
She reached out to me and helped me up, and pulling me along through broken alleys and dark marble buildings. I looked back ..DAMMIT!!! MY LASGUN IS GONE!!!! Those little grots must have grabbed it when I was out. At times, I doubted she knew the danger of walking through a battlefield of humans and orks, but after several sudden stops, she pushed me against a wall quietly and allowed bellowing orks to run by us without being seen. She was so non-violent, it confused me. Not even a single grot hauling junk in our sights temped her to shoot that pathetic greenskin.
She walked so softly, pulling me along. My boots couldnt be any louder running through rubble. I saw her feet .no .they were hooves. Soft hooves. I remember reading a verse about how these xenos evolved on a desert planet, walking amongst the sand dunes. Makes sense to have hooves.
I was getting tired, and hungry. I doubt she could understand me, so I blindly was being pulled along. When we came to a stop, she displayed a holographic map from her forearm, showing the next path we need to take. The manhole cover next to us would lead us into the depths of the catacombs under the ruins. For the few seconds I saw the map, I noticed where she was taking me. An ancient industrial district no less than a days walk from here. Away from the battlefront. I knew a better way to get there. But it was on the surface, and it would add another days walk, but at least I knew where I was going, and I could see better up here. An extra pair of eyes wouldnt hurt ..
What should I do? -Let her lead me into the dark catacombs. Im sure she can see in the dark with that eerie helmet on, but I would be blind most of the way, and a report two days ago from the Major said orks are making a push beneath ground. -Try to lead her above ground on the surface giving me some advantage, but adding an extra day to the travel, and chance we might be walking through a human garrison patrol. ---------------------------------------------------------
Artist note: I'll leave this one open for votes till next week July 17th.
One problem. " I saw her feet….no….they were hooves. Soft hooves. I remember reading a verse about how these xeno’s evolved on a desert planet, walking amongst the sand dunes. Makes sense to have hooves." Swing and a miss. Three toes. The "hooves" are like boots, exept for three toed Tau.
I thought they had three toes too. But when I read the novels: Kill Team and Fire Warrior, they described the Tau as having cloven hooves. I had been confused.
When I read the Tau Physiology parts in the Lexicanum [link] and all Wiki sources, they all mentioned that they have hoofed feet with three fingers and an opposable thumb. Even both Codexes (old and revised) mentioned this as well.
So my first thought had aggreed with you, but after all the official fluff on this, I think it is safe to say that Tau have cloven hooves. And by all means, I do NOT consider myself a Tau expert, nor do I consider myself a canon writer. But, I do have fun drawing Xin'Vauk.
Thanks for the critique. I really do appreciate it. It keeps me on my toes.
Hard to say. One hand the Firewarrior has the equipment and the darkness could aid both, not being seen. Other hand, the Guardsman has intelligence about orks moving through the catacombs, but his way would take one more day.
I would go the tau way. Time is vital resource in this situation. An extra day would just waste food and nerve.
